Care for you while you learn to care for your baby
Postpartum needs vary widely from one family to another.
You may have lots of support from family or friends. This can be very good or perhaps this may bring a lot of pressure. Many people have very firm ideas about how to manage your baby, or how you “should” or “should not” be feeling.
Non-family help can give a safe place for you to say and ask what you really want to without feeling shy, nervous or embarrassed.
Even with lots of experience with newborns, each baby is unique and sometimes your newest one can leave you feeling less confident than you expected.
You might want help with the physical aspects of caring for your baby, for example, the first bath.
You might, unexpectedly, just need someone to talk to, to process your birth experience and your transition into this new role of tremendous responsibility.
For all these reasons and more, postpartum needs vary between families and you might not be able to clearly anticipate your needs. May I suggest, at the very least, scheduling two, 2-hour visits in the first 10 days after the birth.
